1/2008: The year has started off fast out of the gate, mixing a new record by Spanish artist Carlos Baute. The production was handled by Juan Carlos Moguel, who is an integral part of the Armando Avila hit making machine. It was great to work & hang out with them -- they are great guys.
The Lustra record will hopefully be available soon in some form. We did a crazy Christmas song that is unlike anything you’d ever associate with Christmas -- especially the lyrics! I’m looking forward to the record release.
I also finished up a new Roger Manning solo record; my third project with Roger! This one is a little more glam/ 60’s &70’s rock influenced than the first record [the second one, ‘Robo-Sapiens’ is a club/dance record], but retains the signature RM amazing arrangements and vocals. Check his website for release info.
8/2007: It’s been a great year so far, with the productions for Lustra and Alanna Lin/Fascinoma going well and getting near completion. Hopefully they will be available in the next few months. In the meantime, I’ve mixed a Robbie Wiliams ‘Live in Mexico City’ show, and I just got back from a short stint in Milano, Italy mixing tracks for an upcoming Eros Ramazzotti record. A few days ago, I tracked a version of the Kink’s ‘Lola’ for Robbie and his former producer, Guy Chambers. I have a few different projects coming up in the next several weeks -- mixing and production. Stay tuned...
I did the Tape Op convention again, and got to see some old friends, meet new ones, and work on my golf game a bit.
1/2007: Happy New Year !! I just realized I have not updated the site in a while, so here it goes!
I had quite the busy summer and fall this year. After completing the mixes for the Big Provider record [ titled 'Start Making a Scene'] at the end of June, I launched into the mixing of the Robbie Williams best of live DVD called 'And Through it All - Robbie Williams Live 1997-2006'. I ended up mixing a total of 42 tracks for the DVD [in stereo and in 5.1]. I am credited as a co-executive audio producer. I spent the month of September in England finishing the project and mixing a Robbie show that was recorded in Leeds in front of 95,000 people. In total, I mixed 54 live tracks over a three month period!
In the middle of all this, I got to record and mix a song for Bonnie Raitt for the film 'Lucky You', The song is a cover of a song made famous by George Jones called 'Bartender's Blues'. It was great to work with Bonnie again, and to work with Don Was for the first time.
I also got in a few days for the Boston Legal TV show, doing songs for their Christmas episode and the episode that followed.
In all, I mixed over 100 songs for clients in 2006.
The year is starting off busy. I'm going into the studio in a few days to work again with Lustra. I plan on working with LA artist Alanna Lin right after that.
6/2006: I can't believe it has been over six months since my last update! I've been mixing quite a bit this year already -- The new Jack Shit record, a whole new dance record for Roger Manning, 3 additional songs for Roger's debut release on Cordless Recordings, a Robbie Williams b-side and exclusive TMobile cellphone track, and a new singer from Spain named Barbara Reyzabal. I've even mastered the Jack Shit and Roger Manning projects. The main project at the moment is a cool San Diego band called The Big Provider that I am producing. They sound to me like a cross between early Police, Oingo Boingo, and No Doubt, with a bit of disco thrown in for good measure! We have finished overdubs and I am just starting to mix.
I had some bad news last month -- Latin artist Soraya passed away at age 37 from breast cancer. I worked with her a few years ago, and it was one of the best recording experiences I've ever had. She will be greatly missed.
i will be at the Tape Op conference in the middle of June, on a 'mixing in the box' panel. Looking forward to doing the panel, and seeing some of Tucson.
11/2005: I just returned from a 3 week gig in London & Berlin. I was there mixing the 'Robbie Williams Live in Berlin' show that was broadcast on national TV in Germany and the UK. I also recorded and mixed some additional b-sides. I got to work at AIR Studios, which was a great place to be. I've never been in such a well-constructed recording studio complex -- thick walls, heavy doors, and natural light through out. I even got to meet George Martin on my last day there. I felt like a twelve year old meeting my sports hero. Pretty cool...
The reviews of the Robbie record have been very positive so far, and it seems to be doing well in the first few weeks of release.
9/2005: Thanks for checking out the updated site! It's been a few months since I've had the motivation to learn this new software, but there has been a lot going on so I have an excuse. The Roger Manning solo record 'Solid State Warrior' is now available. Check out Roger's website [see the links page] for more information. Mitchell Froom's solo piano record is now available in the US through Inner Knot. The Black Molly's record is also available at fine record shops nation wide.
I've been involved with a few great projects this past spring and summer. I recently produced, recorded, and mixed four songs for a cool LA band called Lustra. They will be adding these songs to an existing set for a Canadian release. Most of the spring was taken up with work on the new Robbie Williams record. We tracked drums, bass, and then overdubbed at Henson Studios on a set of songs Robbie and producer Stephen Duffy had been writing over the previous months. I am very happy to have been a part of it! The first single, 'Tripping' has been released in Europe and other parts of the world. I believe the album will be out in Europe toward the end of October, and is called 'Intensive Care'.
